Job description

DEFINITION:

To perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties in the operation and maintenance of Upper Jasper County Water Authority (UJCWA) in water treatment and distribution systems. This is an Entry Level position. Position requires maintaining property in compliance with company policy. This position must be able to accept directions from others and work independently.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License and eligible driving record.  Applicant must be at least 25 years of age in order to be covered by company's automobile insurance.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintaining company property to standards by mowing, weed eating, picking up trash, and any other duty related to maintaining a clean property.
  • Assist Operators with meter reading, servicing and repairing water meters.
  • Completing routine service order duties to connect, disconnect, remove or install service for customers.
  • Maintain all furnished equipment in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Utilize proper safety precautions while operating machinery.
  • Reporting of any accident immediately to Supervisor.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform duties.
  • Must be able to kneel and work below body centerline for an extended length of time.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. unattended.
  • Must be able to climb heights up to 120'.
  • Must be able to read and interpret numbers.
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of record keeping principles.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Wear proper protective equipment to ascertain maximum safety.
  • Ability to make routine repairs and adjustments to company equipment.
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision.
  • Maintain written logs and records as required by UJCWA and TCEQ rules.
  • Maintain written daily vehicle mileage records as required.
  • Must be available via phone while on standby duty, which is a 7-day, 24 hour rotating UJCWA scheduled shift.
  • Must live within 25 miles of the UJCWA Office and be able to respond to emergency call-outs promptly, 24 hours a day, to include weekends and holidays, unless pre-approved by supervisor.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Must maintain proper public and customer relations procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work in water distribution and treatment plant environments requires: exposure to water, chemicals, hazardous materials, noise, and heavy lifting, moving, standing and climbing up to 120'. May work at heights, in confined spaces as small as a 2' manhole, and in inclement weather conditions.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Methods, techniques, tools and operational characteristics of mechanical equipment used in general public works, construction, and maintenance.
  • Ability to make routine repairs related to the proper function and care of equipment.
  • Operate a variety of vehicular and stationary mechanical equipment including hand tools and power tools required for the work in a safe and effective manner in routine situations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge and abilities outlined above, and must have a valid driving license (applicant must be at least 25 years of age in order to be covered by company's automobile insurance).  

Completion of a high school diploma or GED, that provides the ability to read and write at a level that is required for this job.
